International Master Maxim Chetverik's book covers the Bogo-India Defense which is normally reached after the moves 1.d4 Cf6 2.c4 e6 3.Cf3 Ab4 +. This book also covers the Bogo-Catalan hybrid, in particular, Bogo's answer in the Catalan opening with 1.d4 Cf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3 Ab4 +. Maxim is a great expert on this opening, having played it in 76 official games as of the date of publication, and one of his complete games, as well as several fragments of his play, are included in this volume.

While this solid opening is still part of the repertoire of high-level players, it is also interesting for club players to study and adopt. Their strategic ideas are easier to absorb than those of the Queen's Indian Defence, and black women are not required to learn as much theory. Abrupt variations are rare and tactics play a very subordinate role to strategy. The key focus is pawn structures, and most pawns remain on the board in generally closed positions. However, Black retains the ability to vary the configuration of pawns and pieces to suit her tastes.

114 thoroughly commented items grouped into 20 chapters with Maxim's carefully considered recommendations. Many of the featured games and fragments are played by world champions and supergranmasters, including Carlsen, Kasparov, Alekhine, Anand, Kramnik, Smyslov, Korchnoi, Caruana, Short, Gelfand, Topalov, Shankland, Nakamura, Judit Polgar, Ivanchuk, Yusupov, Ding. Liren, Giri, Aronian, Svidler, Hou Yifan, Timman and many others. Many of the games are drawn from the very recent past and are not dealt with in previous books on Bogo-India. In fact, a large number of matches from 2018 to 2019 are included, so this work, which is full of Maxim's original analyses, covers the latest theory at the date of publication.
