Description

An extraordinary account of the major battles in the life of Vladimir Kramnik, World Champion and Samurai, in Bareev's words.

From London to Elista it offers a fascinating look behind the scenes of high-level chess. It provides an excellent Bareev analysis of all games, but it does much more.

In Socratic-style dialogues, Bareev and co-author Ilya Levitov reveal everything about the preparation, progress and consequences, about the secret strategy and brutal stress of the three battles.

This rich book is indispensable for anyone who wants to know what makes the best great teachers work. It's written from the Knight's mouth and it's full of honesty, irony, history, wit, anger, wisdom and even poetry. With lots of pictures.

Evgeny Bareev is one of the strongest grandmasters in the world today. He was Kramnik's second during matches against Kasparov in 2000 and against Leko in 2004, and was in close contact with Kramnik's team during the scandal-plagued match with Topalov at Elista. Ilya Levitov has been an avid chess fan all his life. He is a close friend of Vladimir Kramnik and Evgeny Bareev.
