Antología de los finales de peones

Knowing the pawn ending strategies will not only help when the game reaches this phase, but will also allow you to decide whether or not to exchange the last pieces remaining on the board to lead to a pawn ending.

This work only includes positions that have been given in games, excluding the studies that, in large numbers, have been composed by analysts. This book is the result of a careful selection of practical examples and their careful analysis, always with computer help.

Description

Pawn ends are the quintessence of chess. The pawns are the minimum forces that can accompany the king to try to achieve victory or avoid defeat. When a match reaches that situation, the end result is based on solid logical principles. In addition, the match could lead to a ladies' final if both sides manage to crown.

Some of the general laws of chess are of little or no application in pawn endgames. The presence of open columns or diagonals is no longer important, because there are no pieces that can dominate them. Instead, the laws of geometry play a major role; but it is a geometry that challenges Euclid's postulates, especially the one that holds that the shortest distance between two points is the straight line. When the kings must move from one square to another away from the previous one, the distance (number of moves they need to go from one to the other) is the same whether they follow a straight path or a broken path.

The study of pawn endings will serve not only to increase a player's skill in those types of positions, but will also help him improve in other phases of the game. For example, the space advantage, which turns out to be important in the middle game, at the end of pawns can be vital. In addition, they are suitable for training the calculus of variants.

Knowing the strategies of the pawn ends will not only help when the game reaches the ace phase, but will allow you to decide whether or not to change the last remaining pieces on the board to lead to a pawn end.

In this work only positions that have been given in games are listed, excluding studies that, in large numbers, have been composed by analysts. This book is the result of a careful selection of practical examples and their careful analysis, always with the help of computers.
