Fábrica de ITALFAMA (Italia)

Italfama was founded in 1976 near Florence, thanks to Aldo Marsili and his passion for chess, but above all thanks to his skills in craftsmanship and his artistic passion. The first chessboards made for his friends were so successful that very soon, what began as a simple hobby became a lifelong job, turning Italfama in a world-class factory producing high-quality chess pieces and boards. Italfama it offers classic and contemporary style chessboards, as well as chess pieces with historical themes, such as those of famous battles and characters from ancient and modern history.

To create the chessboards Italfama, precious materials such as birch and elm wood, semi-precious stones such as onyx, Carrara marble and malachite are carefully chosen, while chess pieces were designed using many metals, including solid brass and bronze, in various finishes ranging from classic satin to refined gold and silver.

1999 was an important year for Italfama, acquired the Piero Benzoni” factory in Milan, famous for the production of exclusive chess pieces and limited edition chessboards, handmade in bronze by the lost wax casting process, an ancient method transmitted by the famous sculptor Benvenuto Cellini in 1550 and still in progress in the jewellery sector. These unique masterpieces are refined with 24-karat gold and silver. With their entry into the company, the sons Tommaso and Marco bring several modern and innovative ideas, which translates into the launch of new product lines, new finishes and new company strategies.

Italfama opened its own official store in Florence in 2002, in Borgo San Jacopo, near the Ponte Vecchio, and has already become a classic destination for many dedicated customers from all over the world who visit Florence. In 2005, Italfama made its debut in the online marketplace with a stylish website reserved for retailers www.italfama.it.

2017 was another pivotal year. Italfama acquired the factory “La Bottega del Vasari” in Milan, which in turn specialized in the production of artistic chess pieces and chessboards made of bronze, to highlight the worldwide uniqueness of its completely handmade chessboards. For 40 years, Italfama participates in the most important international fairs of home decoration, gifts and furniture, in Italy in Milan and abroad in Germany, England, Russia and soon in the United States and Asian countries. Recently Italfama celebrated its 40 years of activity, and continues to do its work by hand, still paying close attention to the needs of its customers and always with the same values: great passion, commitment and utmost care down to the last detail.
