First steps in pawn structures
Understanding how to use pawns and how to manage the different pawn structures are important topics for young players or players who want to improve. MI and FIDE coach Andrew Martin investigates and develops the notion that pawns are the soul of chess and attempts to explain what exactly that means. The effective use of pawns in the opening leads to the correct development of the pieces and a good game emerges from it. The pawn structure must be taken into account throughout the game and that is something that Martin also touches on. The spectator will take a tour of excellent games, both ancient and modern, many from the period 2012-2014, which highlight the key ideas about the correct use of pawns and from which one cannot fail when it comes to improving one's technique. . It is an ideal work for players below 1800 Elo points or ambitious players of any level.
