The wicked Veresov Attack
The Veresov (1 d4 Cf6 2 Cc3 d5 3 Ag5) is little played and understood, if we compare it with other queen's pawn openings such as the Trompowsky, the Tower Attack and the London System. As such, it can be a dangerous weapon in the right hands. Few club players and fans will be adequately prepared to play against her. It is an attack opening, based on a quick unfolding of the smaller pieces, followed by an effective pawn lever to open the game. Many strong grandmasters have used the Veresov as an element of surprise; among them are Spassky, Tal, Bronstein, Albert and Gufeld. Modern practitioners include Miladinovic and Jonny Hector, for whom the Veresov is a special favorite. On this DVD of ChessBase andrew Martin introduces the opening and discusses how the main themes work. It then offers a selection of repertoire options. At the end, there's a test you can test what you've learned. This DVD is an ideal introduction to the study of this opening for players below 2000 Elo points or busy players who would like to play aggressive chess but do not have time to learn the main lines. It's worth studying and playing Veresov!
