Chess Endgames 8 - Practical Rook Endgames
Practical rook endings. Rook endings are among the most frequently encountered. And precisely that is the area in which the efforts made in training quickly pay dividends in the form of half a point or the whole point, because even the knowledge of some empirical rules and methods makes life much easier and serves as a beacon even in complex situations. The second DVD in Karsten MÜller's series on endings dealt with theoretical rook endings and was structured around the distribution of material, but this DVD concentrates on themes that will be found in rook endings. This course also begins with the rook versus pawn ending, because it usually occurs frequently and can be understood and learned with the knowledge of a few techniques such as melee, intermediate check, and closing the passage to the king. When examining the equally common more complex rook endings, the emphasis is on basic techniques (for example, the umbrella) and rules of thumb (such as "rooks must be placed behind passed pawns"). But Karsten MÜller also wants to help him with training his intuition. After all, the true art of the game of kings can be best appreciated when exceptions to the rules are identified.
